Just came across something pretty heavy from the crypto archives that still doesn't sit right with a lot of people in the community. Back in October 2022, Nikolai Mushegian, who co-founded MakerDAO, was found dead on a beach in Puerto Rico at just 29 years old. The circumstances around what happened have been controversial ever since.

Here's where it gets wild—hours before his body was discovered on Condado Beach, Nikolai Mushegian had posted some intense claims on Twitter about intelligence agencies and trafficking rings allegedly targeting him. He mentioned plans to frame and torture him. Then he was gone.

Authorities said there were no signs of foul play, just a small head wound and nothing else. The beach itself is known for rough currents and has a history of drownings. Pretty straightforward explanation on the surface.

But the crypto community wasn't buying it so easily. People who knew Nikolai Mushegian described him as incredibly sharp technically, but also noted he'd been dealing with mental health struggles. Some figures like Brock Pierce suggested it could have been self-inflicted, while plenty of others found the whole timeline suspicious—especially the timing of those final tweets.

Years later, people are still debating what really happened to Nikolai Mushegian. The official story is one thing, but the questions never really went away. Whenever someone from the crypto space dies under unusual circumstances, it tends to stick with people. The lack of clear answers probably doesn't help either.
