It's interesting to look at the latest data on military strength in the region. If we take Iran's population in 2025, it's about 92.4 million people compared to 9.5 million in Israel. The difference is huge, but population size isn't everything in modern conflicts.
What really impresses is the military personnel. Iran has about 610,000 active military personnel, while Israel has only 170,000. Iran's reserve force is 350,000 compared to 465,000 Israelis. This results in roughly parity in total combat personnel.
But the picture with equipment is more interesting. Iran has 1,713 tanks, while Israel has 1,300. Armored vehicles number 65,825 versus 35,985. Aircraft—551 versus 611. Combat helicopters—188 versus 240. Here, the difference in quality and modernization of equipment is already evident.
The naval situation is completely different. Israel has 62 ships compared to 107 for Iran, but the Israeli fleet is much more modern and technologically advanced. Submarines—5 versus 25, but again, quality matters more than quantity.
Looking at the financial aspect, Israel's defense budget is $30.5 billion, while Iran's is $15.4 billion. Currency reserves are $204.6 billion versus $120.6 billion. Israel's external debt is $148.5 billion, while Iran's is only $4.1 billion. An interesting economic dynamic considering Iran's population in 2025 and its economic capabilities.
Overall, although Iran's population is significantly larger, military advantage is not so straightforward. It all depends on technology, training, and strategy. The number of people is no longer the main factor in modern conflicts.
