Recently, many people have been asking what to do if their bank cards are frozen, especially in cases involving virtual currency account freezes. I want to share some practical experiences I’ve learned because there are indeed many pitfalls in online tutorials.

First, it’s important to clarify a very key understanding: your account being frozen is not because of what you did, but because the funds are deemed to be involved in a case. Once you understand this, your subsequent approach will be clearer.

I’ve noticed many lawyers boast on social media about running to three different places in a day to get accounts unfrozen, and I usually block them directly. Why? Because it’s really not necessary to go to so many places. The matter of bank card freezing isn’t that complicated; many people are scared into thinking they must spend a lot of money hiring lawyers in different locations, but in reality, if you have some execution ability and are willing to think for yourself, you can handle it entirely. Of course, if you want to spend money to save trouble, finding a reliable legal team is fine, but be sure to sign a contract stating that if they can’t resolve it within 30 working days, you get a full refund.

Why do those lawyers still need to run around? Basically, it’s to collect your travel expenses. For virtual currency account freezes, a phone call or sending some documents can solve the problem; there’s no need to travel so far.

Let me tell you what the real process looks like. The first step is to go directly to the bank counter and ask which department froze your card, and have them write it out or print it for you. Banks are legally obliged to tell you this. After obtaining the freeze information, don’t rush to contact the other party immediately. Many people panic and call right away, but the other side may ignore you because a case officer might have thousands of frozen cards, and they can’t remember yours.

You need to first understand your own situation. Check your transaction history to confirm which transaction caused the freeze. Then organize this information: who is the freezing unit, who is the specific officer handling it, their phone number, the amount involved, and which transaction exactly. Only when all these are clear can you proceed quickly.

The most critical step that many overlook is to write a detailed explanation of your situation, clarifying your background. For example, you previously registered on a certain virtual currency platform, deposited a certain amount, and later lost money, then withdrew the principal. That withdrawal is the one that got frozen. You need to clearly explain this logic.

Next, prepare the materials. Your bank statement should highlight the frozen transaction; prepare both sides of your ID card, and ideally take a photo of yourself holding today’s newspaper along with your ID to prove the card is in your possession and not rented or lent out; also prepare a proof of employment or business license to show you have legitimate work; finally, organize screenshots or records of your virtual currency transactions.

Send these materials to the handling officer. If everything is complete and the logic is clear, the case officer will usually contact you proactively. But don’t get too happy too early, because the next step is the real test.

When the police officer calls, your first question must be to ask their surname—remember, this person is your case handler. All subsequent communication depends on this person. Attitude is very important: be sincere, use respectful language, listen more, speak less, answer questions directly, and don’t be confrontational. This is not the time to show off; it’s to protect your interests.

Timing of contact also matters. Don’t call during their off hours, lunch breaks, or holidays. After 2:30 pm or before 10 am is more appropriate, but definitely avoid Monday mornings when they’re in meetings.

After submitting your materials, discuss a plan with the case handler, such as the proportion of the involved funds to be unfrozen. This depends on your communication skills. If you encounter a sympathetic police officer, that’s good, but most of the time they work within their authority. Having a professional legal team to negotiate for you is very helpful in this situation.

Finally, there are a few possible outcomes. The first is full unfreezing, which is the best case, but obtaining proof that the funds are not involved in a case can be difficult and may require repeated communication. Second, limited freeze, meaning only the involved amount is frozen, and the rest of the card can still be used normally. Third, partial refund, which usually requires negotiation with the victim and possibly taking a statement. Fourth, no unfreezing, which means you need to go through an appeal process.

A very important reminder: never let the police say they want you to go to the case agency to give a statement. If it reaches that point, all your previous efforts could be wasted. A single wrong word can turn you from innocent to guilty. If you must give a statement, bring a situation explanation written by legal counsel, and try to say as little as possible, or request to do the statement at your local police station.

In short, although virtual currency account freezes seem complicated, the core is to prepare all materials, explain the logic clearly, and maintain a good attitude. Most cases can be resolved this way. There’s no need to be intimidated by lawyers or to spend unnecessary money.
