Recently noticed an interesting point on X: Kimbal Musk, Elon’s brother, wrote quite sharp criticism of Trump regarding his tariff policy. The guy is not shy about expressing his opinion, although he is often overshadowed by his more media-visible brother.
Meanwhile, Kimbal Musk is an interesting character in himself. He is 52 years old and has amassed a fortune of about 700 million dollars, mainly thanks to his stake in Tesla (though only 0.04%). Yes, not as wealthy as Elon, but still a billionaire, and that’s no small feat.
What immediately stands out is that Kimbal and Elon have a lot in common. Both were born in Pretoria, they have similar square jaws, identical facial features: straight nose, green eyes. Their nationalities also match: South African, Canadian, and American. But the main difference is that Kimbal literally always wears a cowboy hat. That’s his signature, his recognizable style.
I’ll shed some light on the fact that their family history is quite complicated. Along with younger sister Tosca (she’s 50), both brothers experienced violence from their father. This led their mother, Maye, to divorce in 1979. After that, the family emigrated first to Canada, then to the US. Tough times, but they overcame them.
Even before Elon became known for his space ambitions, both brothers co-founded Zip2 — a startup that provided business software for the internet. That was in the late nineties, and they managed to sell the company to Compaq for 307 million dollars in 1999. Not a bad start for a tech career.
So Kimbal Musk is not just “Elon’s brother.” He is an independent entrepreneur, investor, and a person who is not afraid to criticize even US presidents. It’s interesting to follow what he says and does in the crypto community and beyond.
