I noticed an interesting thing in the market this year. Many still discuss that an altseason is a period when altcoins start to grow faster than Bitcoin, but few understand why this happens at specific moments. So I decided to figure out what has really happened in the market over the past few months.

An altseason is not just a random price increase. It usually occurs after Bitcoin stabilizes or begins to rise. Investors are waiting for exactly this moment because then money starts flowing from Bitcoin into alternative cryptocurrencies. Many held their portfolios in anticipation of this scenario.

I remember, at the beginning of the year, everyone talked about spring 2025 as a time of miracles. There were several arguments. First, Bitcoin halving in 2024 historically leads to a bullish market within 6-12 months. Second, easing of monetary policy was expected, which usually pushes risk assets upward. Third, the arrival of a new administration promised crypto-friendly policies. It seemed like the stars aligned.

But here’s what I noticed looking at current prices. Bitcoin is holding around 77 thousand, Ethereum at about 2,130 dollars. Ripple, which many considered promising, is trading around 1.36 dollars. Cardano shows 0.25, Polygon is stuck at 0.18. Hedera is slightly higher at 0.09 with a small increase. It turns out, an altseason is not just a magic wand that instantly lifts all tokens.

In reality, what happened is this. Projects that continued to develop actively truly got their moment. But dead tokens remained dead. Market psychology works strangely: expectations can indeed create reality, but only if there is something concrete behind the project.

What do I see now? Liquid altcoins with large capitalization like Ethereum still hold their positions. Layer 2 infrastructure tokens gained attention, but not as dramatically as many expected. Projects in artificial intelligence and metaverses showed uneven results.

My simple conclusion is this. If you have dead tokens in your portfolio, don’t expect a miracle even during an altseason. It’s better to redistribute them into more reliable assets. Focus on key altcoins with real development. Ethereum, Ripple, Cardano, Hedera are projects that show at least some dynamics. And of course, Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the long-term anchors of the portfolio.

An altseason is not a guarantee but an opportunity. An opportunity for those who chose the right projects. Others are left just waiting for the next wave.
