Recently, I thought about how one person was able to change the entire blockchain space. I'm talking about Vitalik Buterin — the person who created Ethereum when he was only 19 years old. This is not just another crypto project; it truly changed the rules of the game for the entire industry.

Vitalik was born in Kolomna, but at age 6, he moved with his family to Canada. There, he showed incredible abilities in mathematics and programming from a young age. When he came across Bitcoin, he immediately understood — this is something big, but limited. He started writing for Bitcoin Magazine, deeply immersing himself in blockchain, and it was then that he realized the world needed a more versatile platform.

In 2013, Vitalik Buterin published the Ethereum white paper — an idea for a platform with smart contracts. To explain: if Bitcoin is just a money transfer, then Ethereum is like a computer on the blockchain where you can run programs. In 2014, they raised over $18 million through an ICO, and in July 2015, the platform officially launched. Since then, everything has changed — DApps, DeFi, NFTs, all made possible thanks to Ethereum.

Here's an interesting fact: in 2016, the Ethereum-based DAO was hacked, and about $60 million was stolen. This split the community, but instead of collapsing, the project became stronger. Then there was a scalability issue — the more users, the slower the network. And in September 2022, The Merge took place — the transition to Proof of Stake. Energy consumption dropped by 99%. It was a real breakthrough.

Solidity — the programming language developed by Vitalik Buterin — became the key to everything. Thanks to it, developers began creating complex decentralized applications. Smart contracts allow automating everything, from financial transactions to supply chain management, without intermediaries. NFTs also appeared thanks to Ethereum, opening new opportunities for content creators.

But what’s most impressive is that Vitalik Buterin is not just an engineer, but a person with principles. During the war in Ukraine, he donated about $5 million in cryptocurrency for humanitarian aid. Then he transferred over $1 million in Ethereum to Ukrainian charitable organizations. In October 2024, he sent 400 ETH to support Ukrainian funds. This is not marketing; it’s genuine solidarity.

He even attended ETH Kyiv in 2024 to show support. During these visits, he discussed how blockchain can help government services become more transparent. He travels a lot, has no permanent home, and lives modestly despite his wealth.

Vitalik Buterin’s future plans are ambitious — further improving Ethereum 2.0, sharding, expanding Web3. He aims to attract more users to the ecosystem, strengthen decentralization. He knows Chinese, which allows him to expand influence and collaborations worldwide.

Looking at all this, you realize that Ethereum has become not just a technology, but a true revolution. And Vitalik Buterin remains one of the most influential voices in the crypto space, demonstrating that true innovation combines with ethical principles.
