Tonight I was scrolling and happened to read this updated May 2026 ranking of the 10 richest people in the world. Honestly, it’s crazy to see how the wealth gap has widened in recent months.
Elon Musk continues to dominate without rivals. We’re already at $726 billion. Just think: no one in modern history has ever accumulated so much personal wealth. SpaceX soaring, Starlink expanding global coverage, Tesla holding its ground in the electric car market, and then the whole movement toward AI and neural technology. It’s a unique mix.
After him, the list is basically a who’s who of Silicon Valley. Larry Page in second place with $270 billion (Google/Alphabet doesn’t joke around with AI), Jeff Bezos in third with $255 billion (AWS is a money-making machine), and then Sergey Brin, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg. Almost all founders of tech companies who have held onto their shares over time and are now reaping the benefits of the sector’s exponential growth.
What do I notice? Three trends fueling this explosion of wealth. First: AI and cloud computing have become the main drivers of the global economy. Second: the space sector and semiconductors are experiencing an incredible appreciation phase. Third: major American tech companies dominate overwhelmingly. Those who held onto their shares and kept them are now literally very rich.
The most interesting thing is that the 10 richest people in the world are basically all individuals who believed in technology decades ago and had the patience to wait. Bernard Arnault (the only non-tech person on the list, but still in the high-end luxury segment) with $205 billion, Steve Ballmer with $170 billion, Jensen Huang of NVIDIA with $156 billion, and Warren Buffett with $151 billion complete the picture.
If you look at the list of the 10 richest people in the world, you’ll find that the common denominator is the early bet on sectors that later exploded. Nothing random, in short. It’s the result of vision, timing, and especially the decision not to sell everything when valuations became astronomical.
