I notice that many new entrants to the crypto market tend to "buy at the top" because they don't know how to read basic K-line charts. Today, I want to share 7 important candlestick patterns that, in my opinion, if mastered, will make you much more confident when entering trades.

Let's start with reversal patterns. The Hammer candle is a quite strong signal at the end of a downtrend – long lower shadow, small body at the top, short upper shadow. Conversely, the Inverted Hammer has a long upper shadow, a small body at the bottom, and often indicates buying pressure beginning to appear but requires confirmation from the next candle.

Then there are the "engulfing" patterns – extremely important. When you see a large green candle completely covering the previous red candle (Bullish Engulfing), it’s a sign that the buying side has taken control. Conversely, a large red candle covering a green candle (Bearish Engulfing) warns that a downtrend is forming.

There are two very important star patterns. The Morning Star consists of 3 candles – a long red candle, followed by a small candle (usually a doji), and finally a strong green candle. This is a clear reversal signal to the upside. The Evening Star is the opposite version – a long green candle, a small candle in the middle, then a long red candle, indicating increasing selling pressure.

I also pay attention to Doji – when the opening and closing prices are nearly the same, with shadows that can be long or short. This indicates market indecision, which could signal a reversal or continuation depending on the context.

Honestly, understanding these 7 candlestick patterns not only helps you avoid "buying at the top" but also is the first step to becoming a truly rational trader. Instead of acting on emotions, you'll have a framework to read the market. Mastering these patterns is like knowing how to "read faces and guess intentions" of the market – each trade will feel more confident rather than uncertain. You can practice identifying these patterns on real charts using Gate or other exchanges, which will be much more effective.
