There's something that has always shocked me — an important figure in Poland's crypto market disappeared in 2022. Sylwester Suszek, who was under 35 at the time, was the founder and former chairman of Poland's largest crypto exchange, BitBay, known in the industry as the 'Bitcoin King.' On March 10th, after a business meeting at a gas station, he simply vanished.
The most outrageous part is that all the surveillance cameras that day failed. The police conducted a large-scale search but never found any clues. This wasn't a simple disappearance — after Suszek's sister Nicole started her own investigation, she uncovered more bizarre details. His phone suddenly logged into a mobile network four days after he went missing, and it was moving along the highway.
Even more terrifying were the messages Nicole received. An audio file that sounded like her brother's voice, but with a strange electronic distortion. The voice said he needed help and requested a transfer of Bitcoin worth 12 million Polish zloty. There was also a threatening message attached, saying 'A photo of the body will be available in a week.' Nicole didn't transfer any funds, but she later received more threatening audio, even involving threats of physical harm.
To this day, Sylwester Suszek's case remains unresolved. Nicole continues her investigation despite facing threats herself. This case makes me think that even in a relatively mature crypto market, risks and uncertainties still exist. Sometimes we only see the market trends and projects, but we overlook the real stories behind this industry — the stories we don't know.
