Who is behind Dogecoin?
You probably know the Shiba Inu meme, but few really know who created all this.
Billy Markus is the guy who, along with Jackson Palmer, decided to launch what was supposed to be just a joke in 2013.
They basically mocked Bitcoin and Litecoin by creating a cryptocurrency based on a dog meme.
What’s fascinating is that Billy Markus was born in 1983 in Portland, Oregon, and before becoming famous in crypto, he worked as a senior software engineer at IBM.
In short, he wasn’t exactly a novice in programming.
But here’s the interesting part: Billy Markus and Palmer never expected their joking project to take off like this.
Yet Dogecoin became a global phenomenon.
Today, Billy Markus is active on Twitter/X under the alias Shibetoshi Nakamoto (a great nod to Satoshi),
and he has amassed millions of followers on the platform.
Despite his importance in the crypto world, he remains a rather discreet figure.
He’s not the type to enjoy the spotlight, even though his impact on the market has been enormous.
Billy Markus’s story is interesting because it shows how sometimes the most important things in crypto come from a simple joke.
An IBM programmer decides to create a meme coin with a friend, and boom, everything changes.
This is the kind of narrative that appeals in this space.
