I've noticed that more and more people want to understand crypto but don't know where to start. Honestly, the best way is a good book about cryptocurrency. It's no secret that blockchain is everywhere now, but there isn't much quality literature on this topic in Russian.
I'll start with the classics. Melanie Swan wrote a work called "Blockchain. The Blueprint of a New Economy" – it discusses decentralization as an antidote to financial monopolization. This is not just a technical description but a philosophical look at how technology can reshape the global economy.
If you want stories – read Nathaniel Popper. His "Digital Gold" tells how Bitcoin, from an enthusiast idea, turned into a global phenomenon. Popper asks the right questions: what is money in general and why is it like that? A cryptocurrency book that works like a detective story.
Paul Vigna and Michael Casey from The Wall Street Journal wrote two important works. The first – "The Age of Cryptocurrency," where they explain why virtual assets will become the basis of settlements. The second – "The Truth Machine," which delves into how blockchain can give people control over their data and money. These are not just predictions – they analyze what is already happening.
For those ready for a technical level, Andreas Antonopoulos is your guy. He has two books. "Mastering Bitcoin" details the network architecture, keys, addresses, wallets. And "The Internet of Money" is his reflections after traveling around the world, where he explains decentralized payments in simple language.
Daniel Drescher, in "Blockchain Basics," does what is rarely possible – explains complex things simply. He describes the technology in 25 steps without code or formulas, focusing on what problems blockchain can solve.
There are a few more worthwhile books about cryptocurrency. Brian Patrick Eha shares stories from the crypto industry in "How Money Got Free" – about millionaires, legal battles, enthusiasts who built networks from scratch. Ben Mezrich wrote about the Winklevoss brothers and their path to becoming the first Bitcoin billionaires. Alex Fork, in "Bitcoin: More Than Money," discusses regulation, mining, and anonymity.
In general, if you seriously want to understand crypto, start with one or two books that match your level. From basic concepts to technical details – there’s something for everyone. It’s better than scrolling Twitter and catching FOMO.
