Golden Finance reports that on May 22, U.S. President Donald Trump and his Republican allies had already raised $939 million in campaign funds before the midterm elections in mid-November, more than three times the fundraising scale of the Democratic Party, providing strong support for their fight to toughly maintain control of Congress. The latest filing with the U.S. Federal Election Commission shows that despite the political winds being more favorable to the Democrats, their fundraising amount is only $267 million. However, the party of the sitting president typically loses House seats in midterm elections. The Republicans currently control the House by only a narrow margin and need to hold 14 out of the 18 swing districts identified by the Cook Political Report. Taking into account voters’ fatigue, the situation for the Republicans is relatively unfavorable.
