Just checked the ranking of the 50 poorest countries by GDP per capita in 2025, and it's quite revealing. South Sudan is at the top with barely $251 per person, followed by Yemen ($417) and Burundi ($490). Almost all concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa.

DR Congo, Niger, Somalia, Nigeria... the same names keep coming up. Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique around $600-$700. It's crazy to see this gap compared to the rest of the world. Even countries like Bangladesh ($2,689), India ($2,878), or Papua New Guinea ($2,565) that are on the list are still very low.

What strikes me is that among these 50 poorest countries, the majority are African. Rwanda, Togo, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Burkina Faso... all under $1,200. This really highlights the structural economic challenges of the region. Interesting to follow to understand global development dynamics.
