I just saw that Femke Kok set a new Olympic record in the 500 meters and I have to say, it's impressive. The Dutch skater really demonstrated her talent on the ice in a performance you don't often expect to see. The New York Times picked up the story, so it's one of those events that truly captures the attention of the sports world.
But what surprised me the most is that Erin Jackson, the American skater who is usually very competitive, this time didn't make it to the podium. Meanwhile, Jutta Leerdam, the other Dutch skater we saw win in the 1,000 meters, took silver. In short, Femke Kok and the other Dutch skaters are really dominating right now.
This shows how competitive Olympic speed skating is, especially with the strength that Dutch athletes are showing. I don't know about you, but when you see these results, you understand why skating is such a fascinating sport.
