You know, I've been following the crypto market for a long time and I see the same story over and over: newcomers constantly fall for the same trap. I'm talking about what a pump really is and how it works. It’s not just a price increase — it’s a whole manipulation scheme that leaves investors in the red.
The pump and dump works simply: a group of scammers quietly buys up cheap coins, then starts promoting them on social media, chats, forums. It’s the same everywhere — enthusiastic posts about potential, screenshots of profits, moon predictions. People see this, start buying, and the price skyrockets. When it hits the peak — bam, scammers sell all their tokens at the highest price. The price drops, and other holders lose money.
How to recognize this scheme? The first sign is a sharp price jump without any reason. The coin was irrelevant before, and then suddenly took off. The second — trading volume suddenly increases along with the price. The third — the same people everywhere recommend buying, creating urgency: if you miss the opportunity, you'll regret it later.
As for protection, it’s pretty obvious. Before investing, you need to thoroughly research the project: who is the team, is there a roadmap, what is the real utility. If none of this exists, only promises of quick riches — that’s a red flag. I always check if the project is transparent, if it has a community discussing real things, not just spam about the moon.
The second point — diversification. Never put everything into one coin, especially if you notice suspicious growth. Spread your assets, reduce risk. And trade on reputable exchanges — they at least monitor manipulations and have some protective mechanisms.
It’s also important to stay informed. If you see a coin starting to actively promote itself everywhere at once, that’s usually a sign. Legitimate projects grow organically based on real achievements, not hype.
Overall, what a pump is — it’s simply a well-organized price manipulation. If you know the signs, do your research, and don’t rush — that’s half the success. In the crypto market, without this knowledge, it’s easy to lose money, so it’s better to learn from others’ mistakes than from your own losses.
