The U.S. military is consuming a large number of interceptors for Israel's air defense, and stockpiles are noticeably decreasing.
CryptoWorld News reports, citing The Washington Post, that U.S. Department of Defense officials said that in recent conflicts with Iran, the U.S. military used large quantities of advanced missile defense interceptors to protect Israel, far exceeding Israel’s own usage of high-end munitions. This has led to a significant decline in U.S. stockpiles. Three U.S. officials said that this asymmetric consumption highlights that during Operation Epic Fire, Washington carried the main defensive burden in responding to Iranian ballistic missile attacks, while also raising concerns among outsiders about the United States’ global military readiness and its security commitments. The United States launched more than 200 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors, accounting for about half of the Pentagon’s total inventory. In addition, it also launched more than 100 Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) and Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) interceptors from naval vessels in the eastern Mediterranean. By comparison, Israel launched Arrow missiles.
