Recently, I’ve noticed that newcomers in Discord often get confused by these crypto terms, so I want to organize them to help everyone avoid pitfalls.
Let’s start with the basics. You’ve probably heard the word HODL — actually, it originally was a typo of someone typing “hold,” which ended up becoming a community mantra. It means buying and holding, not panicking and selling even when prices drop. Some veteran players I know do exactly that — when BTC drops from 60k to 30k, they keep buying, and now they’re making a huge profit.
Next is FUD — Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. The word FUD actually refers to negative news or rumors. Sometimes people deliberately spread these to scare retail investors into selling. If you see a big influencer suddenly posting a bunch of bad news on Twitter, they might be creating FUD to cause market panic. I’ve seen it too many times — when a project has any slight issue, rumors start spreading, and many people follow suit and sell. Staying rational at these times is very important.
Then there’s WAGMI — “We’re All Gonna Make It.” This is pure crypto community spirit. During bull markets, everyone shouts this, especially when a new project launches or a coin skyrockets. The whole community feels like a big family, united.
Also, GM and GN are short for “Good Morning” and “Good Night.” It sounds simple, but in crypto communities, it’s a culture — every day when you wake up and check Discord, people greet each other, creating a positive atmosphere.
DYOR is also very important — “Do Your Own Research.” Never buy just because a KOL (Key Opinion Leader) on Twitter promotes a coin. I’ve seen too many people get wrecked because they didn’t do their homework. Before buying anything, look into the whitepaper, check the team’s background, read community feedback — that’s the right approach.
Finally, REKT — completely wiped out. When you buy at the top and are forced to sell at the bottom, you get REKT. I have a friend who bought at the peak of a meme coin, and it dropped 90% overnight — that’s a classic case of being REKT.
Honestly, learning these terms isn’t just to sound professional — it’s more about understanding the logic behind them. When you understand how FUD works, you won’t be easily scared. When you grasp the true meaning of HODL, you can stay calm during market fluctuations. Next time you chat in the community, you’ll be able to communicate seamlessly instead of looking clueless.
