Recently, I noticed some new people in crypto asking what mainnet is, so I decided to write this to explain clearly.

Basically, mainnet is the main network of a blockchain project, where actual transactions and digital assets are processed. Unlike testnet or staging environments used for testing and development, mainnet is the live network that the public can access and use.

The great thing about mainnet is that it operates completely decentralized. Transactions are recorded on a public ledger maintained by thousands of independent nodes across the network. This makes forging or manipulating data nearly impossible. That’s why mainnet is considered a secure and transparent foundation for transactions.

Another interesting point is that mainnet allows developers to build decentralized applications (dApps) on it. These dApps can serve various purposes—from digital payments, identity management, to complex DeFi applications. They leverage the security and transparency of mainnet to provide practical solutions to real-world problems.

In summary, mainnet is the heart of any blockchain project. It’s not only the place where transactions are processed but also the platform for the entire ecosystem of applications. That’s why the success of mainnet determines the sustainability of the whole project.
