Just looked at Pakistan's currency history and it's actually wild how much the rupee has depreciated since independence. Back in 1947 when the dollar rate in pakistan was set at 3.31 PKR, it stayed pretty stable for years. Like, for almost a decade it barely moved at all.

But then things started shifting. By the mid-50s it crept up to around 4.76 PKR, and it just... kept going. The 70s and 80s saw slower changes, but once the 90s hit, the depreciation really accelerated. In just a few years it jumped from around 20 PKR to over 50 PKR.

The real collapse happened more recently though. 2008 onwards it started moving faster - 81 PKR, then 85, then 107 by 2013. And the last few years have been brutal. 2022 hit 240, 2023 was 286, and now we're at 277. That's a massive drop from the original 1947 dollar rate in pakistan.

It's basically a 77-year story of continuous currency erosion. The rupee lost like 99% of its value against the dollar. Wild to see it visualized like this.
