I looked at the per capita GDP figures for the poorest countries in the world in 2025, and honestly, it's quite shocking to see the gap. South Sudan ranks at the bottom with barely $251 per person, followed by Yemen at $417. It's really hard to imagine.
In Africa, many nations are among the poorest—Burundi at $490, the DRC at $743, Niger at $751. The majority of the continent is struggling economically. Even countries like Tanzania, Zambia, and Uganda, which seem more developed, remain below $1,400 in GDP per capita.
The contrast is staggering when you see that some of the poorest countries in the world, like Bangladesh, Cambodia, or Ivory Coast, barely reach $2,900. Between South Sudan and India, there's an over tenfold difference. It really highlights the massive inequalities that exist globally.
