Recently on X, there was a quite notable post from Kimbal Musk, Elon’s brother. The post was about Trump’s tariffs and taxes — a rather sharp critique, considering who authored it. Interestingly, the brothers don’t always agree on opinions, although they share very strong family ties.
Kimbal Musk is a figure who lives in the shadow of his famous brother but is no less interesting. He is 52 years old and a billionaire with a net worth of around 700 million dollars. Most of his wealth comes from owning Tesla shares — though only a small percentage. But what immediately stands out when meeting him is his signature cowboy hat, which he wears almost all the time. It’s his distinctive trait.
Both brothers have a lot in common — they were born in Pretoria, and they have similar facial features: a square jaw, a straight nose, green eyes. Interestingly, both hold South African, Canadian, and American citizenship. Their family history is quite dramatic. Along with their younger sister Tosca, they experienced a difficult childhood, which led to their parents’ divorce in 1979. After that, the family moved first to Canada, then to the United States.
In professional terms, Kimbal Musk and his brother Elon founded Zip2 — a startup that provided business software for the internet. The project was successful: they sold it to Compaq in 1999 for 307 million dollars. This was the brothers’ first serious success, marking the beginning of their entrepreneurial careers. Since then, Kimbal Musk has been involved in philanthropy and various projects related to environmental care and sustainable development.
