I noticed an interesting pattern in discussions about the African economy. Everyone talks about the most developed country in Africa by GDP, and usually names the same few: South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, Kenya. Yes, they lead in infrastructure and stability. But that’s not the whole story.

Here’s the point: when you look at Africa’s most developed country solely through the lens of GDP, you miss the main thing. True development isn’t just about big numbers. It’s about control over technology, energy, financial flows, and innovation.

Africa isn’t just falling behind. It’s actively restructuring itself. And that fundamentally changes the game. The countries that are investing now in digital transformation and green energy will set the rules tomorrow. Several African players have already realized this and are moving in that direction.

So when I talk about Africa’s most developed country in the context of the next decade, I’m not referring to who’s ahead now, but who is better positioning itself for the future. A technological leap, control over energy, financial independence — these will determine the leaders.

Who do you bet on? Which country, in your opinion, will make this leap first?
