Just scrolled through Pakistan's currency history and it's wild how much the rupee has lost value over the past 77 years. Back in 1947 when Pakistan gained independence, 1 dollar was just 3.31 PKR. Can you imagine? The currency stayed pretty stable for nearly a decade, but then things started shifting.

The real story gets interesting from the 1970s onwards. By 1972 it jumped to 11 PKR per dollar, and through the 80s and 90s it kept sliding. But the acceleration is what caught my eye - from 2000 onwards the depreciation really kicked in. We went from around 50 PKR in 2000 to 81 PKR by 2008, then 107 PKR by 2013.

Last few years have been brutal though. 2019 hit 163 PKR, 2022 saw it at 240 PKR, and by 2023 we're talking 286 PKR per dollar. Current rate is around 277 PKR. That's an 8000% devaluation from 1947 levels. Shows how inflation and economic pressures compound over decades. Wild to see the dollar to PKR journey laid out like this.
