I just realized that many people in crypto are not clear on what 1K, 1M, or 1B mean when they see these numbers on social media or in charts. It's basic but important if you want to better understand what's happening in the markets.
Let's see, the letter K comes from kilo and represents a thousand. So when you see 1K, we're talking about 1k units. If someone says a token reached 100K, it means it hit 100k. Pretty simple, right?
Now, when you go up a level, we get to M for million. 1M is 1M, that is, a thousand thousands. In crypto, this is important because you often see trading volumes or market caps in millions. For example, 5M means 5 million.
And then there's the B for billion in Spanish, which in the English-speaking world is called billion. Here we're talking about thousands of millions. 1B = 1B. When you see Bitcoin has a market cap of hundreds of billions, you understand the scale of the market.
The reason this matters is that in finance and crypto, you constantly see these numbers. Whether you're looking at trading volumes, project market caps, or even earnings on YouTube or social media, everyone uses this notation. It's not complicated once you understand it, but it makes a difference in how you interpret the information.
That's why if you work with crypto or anything related to large numbers, understanding this helps you make better decisions and avoid confusion with the figures. There are interesting projects on Gate where you can see these numbers in action if you want to practice reading charts and volumes.
