Recently, I saw a bunch of people online pasting goat emojis next to athletes. At first, I thought it was some new meme, but later I realized that the word GOAT has really caught on. GOAT means “Greatest Of All Time,” which means “the best of all time.” The reason people use a goat emoji is because the English word “goat” literally means a goat, so it’s a play on words.
Messi and Ronaldo are probably recognized as GOATs in the world of football. They’ve been competing since they were 17, and even now, at 37, they’re still playing. Over these 20 years, they’ve broken countless records. To reach their level of achievement is truly extraordinary—you need to score 40+ goals every year for 17 consecutive years, and also rack up countless awards and assists. Only then can you be called a GOAT. Messi even printed a goat image on his jersey to commemorate this title—feels pretty interesting.
But besides football, tennis player Federer, basketball legend Jordan, and American football’s Tom Brady are all recognized as GOATs in their respective fields. Recently, some people have also said that if Haaland continues to develop like this, he might even make it into this group—but surpassing the achievements of Messi and Ronaldo is still quite difficult. What do you think—are there other athletes who deserve to be called GOAT?
