Once again, the so-called “Future Person” is making headlines. Have you heard of Rei Kokubun, who claims to have come from the year 2058? Online, she apparently goes by the name “Japan’s strongest Future Person.”

It’s said that some of her past predictions have come true. Things like the number of gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, the crash of the Nikkei Average in 2020, and the timing of Prime Minister Abe’s resignation. So it seems quite a few people believe her—and some people think she might have information that goes beyond space and time.

According to Rei Kokubun, she was born in 2034 and was at the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo National University. She claims that in December 2019, she arrived in the society of that time via a spacetime transfer device. Of course, there’s no scientific basis at all—but her sequence of predictions on X caught on, and she became popular on social media.

And you know, the crypto-related angle is what’s really interesting. Rei Kokubun says she made a large-scale purchase of 1,400 Ethereum. As for why it was Ethereum instead of Bitcoin, she reportedly thought there would be more application opportunities in the Ethereum ecosystem, and therefore higher upside potential.

However, she also has something interesting to say about Bitcoin. She says that by the 2058 timeframe, Bitcoin will reach 780 million yen (about $4.94 million), but at that point it will be in a state where “there’s only something to sell, and you can’t buy.” In other words, there’s room to buy Bitcoin now while it’s still possible. As of now, the current BTC price is $77.20K and ETH is $2.13K.

Whether those past predictions are truly “uncannily accurate” is open to debate. Among researchers, some point out that her forecasts may be reasoning based on economic trends at the time and rumors in politics, with possible elements of luck and post-hoc adjustments. There are also doubts about whether she’s using vague hints to attract users’ interest.

From an investment perspective, it’s true that Rei Kokubun’s comments reignited discussions about Bitcoin and Ethereum. But if you follow her “future value in the 2030s,” experts say you should first evaluate your own risk tolerance.

There’s also concern that her statement, “With Bitcoin, it’s only for selling,” could lead to further speculation and market turmoil. Since 2024, the prices of Bitcoin and Ethereum have changed significantly due to factors such as the U.S. election and the introduction of ETFs, so investors need to stay level-headed. It’s important not to blindly follow along or sell excessively.

In the end, Rei Kokubun’s identity as a “Future Person,” and her predictions, remain wrapped in mystery and the unknown. For the crypto market, it might just be an amusing topic, but for believers, it’s probably the guidance of a “prophet.” Regardless of whether you choose to trust future information, investing should always come down to your own judgment and risk management.
