I just noticed a pretty interesting trend in the crypto market in recent years – that is RWA, also known as Real World Assets. Some of you might still be unfamiliar with this concept, but basically, RWA is simple: it’s real assets like real estate, bonds, or copyrights that are digitized into tokens on the blockchain.
The cool thing here is that it creates a bridge between the traditional financial market and the crypto world. Instead of just trading purely digital coins, retail investors can now access high-value assets through tokenization. Liquidity increases, systemic risk decreases, creating a win-win for both sides.
But what’s noteworthy is that the current RWA segment is still quite small – accounting for less than 1% of the total crypto market capitalization, around $8 billion. However, looking at the growth rate, it’s a completely different story – Tokenized Treasuries grew over 780% in 2023, and Private Credit has increased ninefold since 2022. This is a clear sign that major institutions like BlackRock, JP Morgan, and Franklin Templeton are seriously entering this space.
I see the difference of RWA compared to other crypto trends is that it has a real-world foundation. It’s not just pump-and-dump or pure speculation, but projects with real products and clear applications. For example, $ONDO focuses on tokenized treasuries, or Figure with blockchain lending on real estate – these are applications with genuine demand.
The key point is that when choosing RWA projects to invest in, you need to find tokens with real utility, not just symbolic tokens. Many projects are launched without worthy products, while leading projects with solid foundations will be easier to compete with.
Overall, RWA is a promising field with sustainable growth, different from the bubbles of previous trends. Its market cap is still small, but the participation of major institutions shows this is the future. However, investing in RWA requires a thorough understanding of the products, not rushing, but carefully selecting projects with real foundations.
