An interesting character in the shadow of his famous brother — Kimbal Musk, whom many know only within the crypto community. He’s been 52 years old, and he clearly isn’t shy about sharing his opinions.
Recently, Kimbal Musk criticized Trump’s policies on X, stating that the president has imposed the highest taxes in generations through his tariff strategy. It’s a structural tax directly on American consumers. It’s amusing that Elon’s brother didn’t hesitate to voice his position, despite the fact that Elon himself has been close to Trump lately.
But here’s what’s interesting — despite all their disagreements, the Musk brothers love each other very much. Maybe this South African upbringing is showing. Both were born in Pretoria, and they share facial features — a square jaw, straight nose, green eyes. Their nationalities also match: South African, Canadian, and American.
What sets Kimbal Musk apart from the family is his signature cowboy hat, which he wears constantly. Together with his younger sister Tosca (she’s 50), they endured a difficult childhood marked by family violence. This led their mother, Maye, to divorce in 1979. After that, the family moved to Canada, then to the United States.
Few remember that both brothers co-founded Zip2 — a startup for business software on the internet. In 1999, they sold it to Compaq for $307 million. Not a bad start, wouldn’t you agree? Today, Kimbal Musk’s net worth is around $700 million, mainly thanks to a small stake in Tesla (0.04%). But his fame is more associated with philanthropy than with cryptocurrencies or exchanges.
