I noticed an interesting trend that many seem to overlook. The wealth of the richest people in the world this year is simply staggering. When you look at the numbers, it becomes clear why the tech sector so dominates.

Elon Musk has long been at the top, but the scale of his fortune is just astonishing. $726 billion is a level that previously seemed impossible for one person. SpaceX and Starlink operate like a printing press, Tesla continues to grow, plus his influence in AI and neurotechnology. These are not just dollars—they represent control over future technologies.

The second and third places are held by the founders of Google and Amazon. Larry Page with $270 billion thanks to Alphabet's full pivot to artificial intelligence. Jeff Bezos with $255 billion—his AWS is just printing profit, logistics are expanding. This is a classic example of how early bets on cloud technologies paid off in full.

Next are Sergey Brin ($251 billion), Larry Ellison ($248 billion), Mark Zuckerberg ($233 billion). All of them are connected in some way to AI, cloud computing, or the metaverse. Bernard Arnault added $205 billion thanks to the luxury segment, but even he looks pale compared to tech magnates.

Why is this happening? First, AI and cloud computing are growing exponentially. Second, space and semiconductors are the new gold mines. Third, American companies simply dominate these sectors. And most importantly—those who held their shares from the beginning are now reaping the rewards. The richest people in the world are mainly those who didn’t sell their early investments.

Steve Ballmer, Jensen Huang, Warren Buffett round out the top 10, but even their fortunes look like billions compared to the leaders. $170 billion, $156 billion, and $151 billion respectively.

What does this mean? That if you're not in technology or finance, your chances of reaching the top of wealth are almost zero. The wealthiest people in the world today are almost exclusively tech entrepreneurs and innovators. It will be interesting to see how this looks in five years when AI becomes even more integrated into all spheres. It’s quite possible these numbers will seem laughable.
