Remember this case from a few years back? Still gives me chills thinking about it. Nikolai Mushegian, one of the early builders in crypto who co-founded MakerDAO, was found dead on a beach in Puerto Rico back in October 2022. The whole thing was bizarre, honestly.

He was only 29 when his body washed up on Condado Beach in San Juan. But here's where it gets weird - just hours before, Nikolai Mushegian had posted some intense tweets claiming that intelligence agencies like the CIA and Mossad were running some kind of blackmail and trafficking operation, and that they were planning to frame him and torture him. Pretty heavy stuff.

The official story from local authorities was that there were no signs of foul play. They noted he had a small head wound but nothing else suspicious. The beach itself has a reputation for strong currents and has seen drownings before, so drowning seemed like the easy explanation.

But people who knew him said Nikolai Mushegian was genuinely brilliant - like, seriously talented in the crypto space. At the same time, friends mentioned he'd been dealing with mental health struggles. Some people, including crypto figure Brock Pierce, suggested it might have been intentional, while others thought the timing was just too coincidental.

Years later, the crypto community still debates what actually happened. The timing of those tweets, the circumstances, the lack of investigation into his claims - it all fueled conspiracy theories. Whether you think it was an accident, intentional, or something else entirely, Nikolai Mushegian's death remains one of those unexplained stories in crypto history that people keep coming back to. The official cause is still up for interpretation depending on who you ask.
