Tether acquired SoftBank’s stake in Twenty One Capital, strengthening its ownership position in the Bitcoin-focused investment firm, indicating a strategic shift in the company’s shareholder structure.

What happened in Tether’s acquisition of SoftBank’s stake?
Tether International announced the acquisition, under which the stablecoin issuer took over the stake previously held by the Japanese SoftBank Group. This move effectively removes one of Twenty One Capital’s most prominent institutional backers and replaces it with a digital asset-focused entity.
Twenty One Capital, which specializes in managing Bitcoin treasuries, previously filed registration documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in preparation for listing its shares on an exchange. The registration filing (S-1) explained the company’s structure and the support it received at the time from both Tether and SoftBank.
