The Federal Reserve plans to implement restrictive "simplified" payment accounts for fintech and cryptocurrency companies
The Federal Reserve proposed a rule on May 21st to establish restrictive "simplified main accounts" for eligible fintech and crypto-related banks. These accounts only provide narrow payment channels for clearing and settlement, cannot earn interest, and cannot use central bank tools such as discount window or intraday credit, nor enjoy the backing of traditional banks.
