34 towns and streets in Guangdong experience torrential rain; Jiangxi Ji'an issues a red alert

On May 20th during the day to the morning of the 21st, Yangjiang, Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Huizhou, Shanwei, and Jieyang in Guangdong generally experienced heavy rain to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing extremely heavy rain. Maoming, eastern Zhanjiang, Shantou, Chaozhou, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shaoguan, Qingyuan, and Heyuan generally experienced heavy rain to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing extremely heavy rain. The remaining cities and counties experienced moderate to heavy rain with localized heavy rain. According to meteorological and hydrological monitoring, from 08:00 on the 20th to 08:00 on the 21st, the average rainfall in Guangdong province was 48.5 millimeters, with 562 towns and streets experiencing heavy rain accounting for 75.4% of the total towns and streets in the province, 34 towns and streets experiencing extremely heavy rain, 188 towns and streets experiencing heavy rain, and 473 towns and streets experiencing rain. The towns and streets with the highest rainfall in each city are: Hekou Town, Yangchun City, Yangjiang, 770.5 mm; Encheng Street, Enping City, Jiangmen, 625.3 mm; Doucheng Town, Dapeng District, Zhuhai, 477.6 mm; Huangqiang Town, Haifeng County, Shanwei, 386.7 mm; Xiayong Street, Daya Bay District, Huizhou, 341.7 mm. Multiple cities and counties recorded short-term heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters in one hour, with the maximum one-hour rainfall in the province being 124.9 millimeters in Teyong Town, Huidong County, Huizhou. It is expected that on the 21st, Guangdong Province will still experience heavy rain to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing extremely heavy rain; from the 22nd onward, rainfall will significantly weaken, and temperatures will rise. The Ji'an Meteorological Observatory in Jiangxi Province changed the red rainstorm warning signal at 11:23 on May 21, 2026: In the past three hours, two stations, Jinchuan Town and Shenzhengqiao Township in Xingan County, recorded over 100 millimeters. It is expected that in the next three hours, some areas of these towns will continue to receive rainfall, accompanied by short-term heavy rainfall, lightning, and other strong convective weather. Please be aware of the potential secondary disasters such as urban and rural waterlogging, floods in small and medium rivers, mountain floods, and geological disasters caused by heavy rainfall.
