Security researchers discover counterfeit Ledger hardware wallets sold on Chinese e-commerce platforms
ME News reports that a Brazilian security researcher found that a Ledger Nano S Plus purchased from a Chinese e-commerce site was counterfeit, with an appearance similar to the official but not verified as genuine. Disassembly revealed altered hardware/firmware, with internal WiFi/Bluetooth antennas, scratched chip markings, and firmware indicating the manufacturer as Espressif Systems. The researcher warns to only download LedgerLive from ledger.com and purchase hardware only from ledger; if not verified as genuine, stop using it immediately. Previously, over 50 victims had their mnemonic phrases leaked due to fake Ledger Live listed on the Apple App Store, resulting in losses of approximately $9.5 million. PANews
