On the 20th local time, UN Secretary-General's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated at a routine briefing that the Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda continue to spread, with the epidemic expanding to multiple cities. The World Health Organization has allocated an additional $3.4 million from the Emergency Response Fund. Dujarric said that the UN World Food Programme warns that if access restrictions cannot be overcome and aid cannot be expanded, the Ebola epidemic could further worsen the local food insecurity situation. Currently, 26.5 million people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo face severe food insecurity, and in the eastern regions of the DRC affected by Ebola, nearly 10 million people are in crisis or emergency hunger levels.
