When I was young, I always thought that someday I would become a very capable person.

Only after I grew up did I realize that most people are just “little people” standing in the corners of the world.
Like this opossum.
Without competing, without making a fuss, it quietly stands by the window, staring blankly at the world outside.
The world outside is vast, and changes quickly.
Some people get rich overnight, some rise to the top, and some are illuminated by the spotlight.
And for more people, it’s just that they quietly grind through life, bearing it all.
But sometimes I feel that
the truly impressive aren’t necessarily those standing on the mountaintop,
but those who, after recognizing their own smallness, still refuse to give up and keep living seriously.
The reason the opossum with its hands behind its back resonates with people
may be because it looks so much like us in reality—
ordinary, silent, unnoticed—
yet still stubbornly standing there.
