Recently, many people have been engraving inscriptions, but there are still quite a few beginners who are not very clear on how to operate specifically. I have also been exploring for a while, and today I want to share my experience with everyone. It’s actually not as complicated as you might think.
First, you need to understand some basic concepts. The core logic of the Ordinals protocol is to assign a serial number to each satoshi on Bitcoin, making them unique. Because Bitcoin blocks can store information themselves, the numbered satoshis naturally have NFT attributes. As long as you write text, images, audio, or videos into them, they become artworks. BRC-20 is a token standard developed on this basis, simply put, using this protocol to issue tradable tokens.
Before engraving inscriptions, you need to prepare three things. First is Bitcoin, mainly used to pay miner fees. Second is a wallet; currently, there are many options in the Bitcoin ecosystem, and most people use browser plugin versions. Lastly is the minting platform, which is very important.
For the wallet, I recommend directly using a third-party Web3 wallet plugin, which is more convenient to install in your browser. After installation, remember to securely store your seed phrase, as it is the only way to recover your wallet. Then switch to the BTC network, which will generate a Taproot address, used to receive Bitcoin. Transfer your BTC from other wallets or exchanges to this address as the gas fee for subsequent inscription.
While waiting for BTC to arrive, you can browse the minting platform first. You can see various projects of BRC-20 and BTC NFTs, some already fully minted and available for direct trading, while others are still in progress.
When starting to engrave inscriptions, choose projects that are further along in progress. For example, find a project called BSCS, click in, and you will see a mint button. After selecting the project, enter the quantity you want to engrave. One thing to note here is that you must choose tokens that have already been deployed, so that after engraving, they can be traded normally. The number of repetitions is how many copies you want to mint at once; one repetition means one copy.
Before confirming, your wallet will display the total fee for this operation. Usually, the cost to mint one is about $0.4. After confirming the fee, just wait for the inscription to succeed.
If you want to mint a certain token but don’t see the mint option after entering, you can scroll down and find a token with a progress bar that hasn’t started yet. Click in, and you will see a mint button. Enter the token name and confirm.
Once successfully minted, you can see it in your wallet. Then, find the token management feature in your wallet, enter the name of the token you just minted, and click on the transaction history to wait for the final confirmation of the inscription. After completion, go back to the homepage, select this token, and you can choose to list the inscription for trading. The whole process is actually quite simple; the key is to be patient and wait for confirmation.
