EU opens MiCA review on stablecoin rules, DeFi gaps before July 2026 CASP deadline

The European Commission opened a public consultation on whether MiCA should be updated, with feedback open until Aug. 31. The review asks whether the EU should revisit its stablecoin interest ban and assess DeFi and tokenized assets that sit largely outside MiCA’s current scope. The process comes before a July 2026 deadline when crypto asset service providers must be fully authorized or stop operating under the EU framework.
