11% of the code was written by AI, yet they didn't lay off staff. I don't believe him.

Uber CTO says Claude Code used up the entire annual budget: 11% of backend code has been written by AI, now shifting toward "agent software engineering"
Uber's Chief Technology Officer stated that the surge in usage of Claude Code has exhausted the 2026 budget early in the year, prompting the team to restart from scratch and establish an internal "leaderboard" to incentivize more effective use of artificial intelligence. Currently, they are using both Claude Code and Cursor simultaneously, and three months ago, Claude's usage was less than 1%, but now, approximately 11% of real-time backend code updates are being completed by agents centered around Claude Code. The vision is to shift from software engineering to intelligent agent software engineering, with agents handling coding, testing, and deployment, and plans to establish oversight and audit mechanisms for agent errors. Although layoffs are not planned at this time, budget pressures may impact staffing strategies.
