I just put together a note on U.S. stock market opening hours and found that many people are confused. The regular trading hours for U.S. stocks are 21:30-4:00 Beijing time, but this is only during daylight saving time; during standard time, it shifts to 22:30-5:00. Be sure to watch the one-hour difference.

The corresponding China time for U.S. stock market opening hours is actually quite simple: from mid-March to early November, follow daylight saving time; the rest of the year, follow standard time. Many people don't realize that the U.S. also observes daylight and standard time, resulting in mistaken trading hours, which can lead to significant losses. The opening times for the NYSE, NASDAQ, and American Securities Exchange are synchronized.

Additionally, U.S. stock market holidays are also quite important. Holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day may see market closures or early closings. Don't assume you can trade 24 hours a day. Pre-market trading runs from 4:00-9:30, and after-hours trading from 16:00-20:00. Liquidity during these periods is lower, so beginners are advised to trade during regular hours.

Although the U.S. stock market opening hours are relatively late for Asian investors, this is also the reason why many major market movements happen during this period. Are you currently trading U.S. stocks?
