Been digging into forex platforms available to Australian traders lately, and honestly there's way more decent options now than I expected. Used to think you were stuck with the big names, but the competition's actually pretty intense.

So I looked at seven of them that people keep recommending—Mitrade, IG, Pepperstone, CMC Markets, Plus500, eToro, and Saxo Markets. What struck me is how different they actually are depending on what you're after. Like, if you're just starting out, some of these forex platforms make things super simple with clean interfaces and built-in education. Others are clearly built for people who know what they're doing and want tight spreads and fast execution.

The regulation thing is non-negotiable though. Every one of these is ASIC-regulated, which honestly matters way more than I used to think. It means there's actual leverage limits, they have to disclose risks properly, and your money's protected. If a forex platform isn't showing that ASIC license upfront, I'd be sketchy about it.

Cost structure varies wildly too. Some charge through spreads only, others mix in commissions. The headline spread number doesn't tell the whole story either—you've got to factor in overnight fees and swap rates if you're holding positions longer than a day. That stuff adds up.

For mobile experience, which is basically everything now, Mitrade stood out as really polished and beginner-friendly. But if you're more technical and want MT4 or MT5, Pepperstone's your move. IG and CMC Markets give you that professional toolkit feeling. eToro's got the whole social trading angle which is interesting if you want to learn by watching others. Saxo's clearly for the serious money crowd.

The thing that actually matters most though? Matching the platform to how you actually trade. There's no universal best—just what works for your style. And whatever you pick, make sure the risk management tools are solid. Stop-loss, take-profit, negative balance protection—that stuff actually matters when you're dealing with leverage.

Anyone else been testing these forex platforms? Curious what people are actually using and whether they're happy with their choice.
