I just realized something quite important that many people overlook when they first start in stocks—that is, it's essential to understand the actual stock trading hours. Not just opening the app means you can place orders at any time. For example, the Vietnamese market opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 2:45 PM, but there is a lunch break from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. If you want to trade US stocks, the trading hours for NYSE or Nasdaq are based on US time, which is roughly 9:30 PM to 4:00 AM the next day Vietnam time—quite unfamiliar.

The biggest difference is that the Vietnamese stock market only operates from Monday to Friday, with no after-hours trading like in the US. I see many beginners often place orders at suboptimal times, then wonder why they can't get matched. My strategy is to focus on peak hours—around 9:00-10:00 AM and 1:30-2:30 PM in the afternoon—because that's when the trading volume is the highest. Knowing the trading hours of each stock exchange will help you plan your investments more proactively.
