My Major Event Prediction: The Winner of the 2028 Presidential Election
In the blink of an eye, half of Donald Trump’s term has already passed. In the upcoming 2028 U.S. presidential election, which person will Trump “hand over” to as the next U.S. president? My bet is on Democrat Gavin Newsom, and my reasoning is as follows:
1. Political Capital and Exposure Advantage:
As Governor of California, Newsom leads the state with the largest population and the biggest economic output in the United States. He has long been setting the national agenda on issues such as climate policy, technology regulation, and social welfare, accumulating deep political resources;
After Trump returns to the White House, Newsom becomes a symbol of the Democratic “resistance movement,” frequently speaking out through the media and increasing nationwide visibility.
2. Favorable Balance Within the Democratic Party:
Biden has clearly said he is not seeking re-election. Harris is constrained by her performance in government, and her approval ratings have not reached an ideal level, giving Newsom room for a “generational leadership change”;
The Democratic Party urgently needs a candidate who can integrate progressives and moderates, combining proven governance achievements with nationwide calling power. Newsom’s steadfast positions on issues such as abortion rights, gun control, and green energy align with that role.
3. Solid Campaign Base:
California has a Democratic supermajority of electoral votes (55), providing Newsom with a stable vote base;
He has strong fundraising capabilities, close relationships with Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and labor unions, and the ability to mobilize the funds needed for a nationwide campaign.
4. Clear Policy Narrative:
Emphasizing “climate leadership” and “technology-ethics governance,” which resonates with the concerns of younger voters;
Promoting the export of the “California Model,” highlighting that state-level innovation can be replicated as national policy, and forming a governance narrative that is distinct from that of traditional candidates.
5. High Uncertainty of the Opponent:
On the Republican side, even though Trump still remains influential, he faces legal challenges and health-related questions, and his successor has not been clearly identified yet;
If the Republican nomination goes to extreme-right figures or a newcomer candidate, Newsom—an experienced incumbent—will be more appealing to moderate voters.
