Mars Finance News, May 20, citing the Yonhap News Agency: Samsung Electronics’ South Korea trade union announced that it would strike on Thursday.

On the 18th, a South Korean court partially approved Samsung Electronics’ request for an injunction against the union’s planned strike; if the Samsung union fails to comply with the court order and continues striking, it will be fined approximately 100 million Korean won per day.

The Samsung Electronics union previously decided to launch a major strike lasting 18 days starting May 21.

The core reason is to share more rewards in 2026, when the company’s AI semiconductor business is expected to achieve record-high profits. The union demands the removal of the cap on performance bonuses, the institutionalization and transparency of using 15% of the company’s operating profit as the source of performance bonus funds, and a 7% increase in basic wages to narrow the pay gap with competitor SK Hynix.

Samsung management, however, is only willing to offer a one-time special bonus or a limited 10% profit-based plan, and does not agree to permanently change the system, fearing increased long-term operating burdens, reduced competitiveness, and harm to shareholders’ interests.
