Did Bill Gates offload Microsoft stock?

That’s not true—absolutely not.
The stock is being sold by the Gates Foundation.
But what many people don’t know is that the foundation’s shares come from Bill Gates’s donations, and they’re for charity.
According to FactSet data, Bill Gates’s personal shareholding still remains worth $43 billion.
The reason for selling all of the stock this time is to support charity and to carry out a comprehensive strategic transformation.
Last year, Gates said that holding a single, highly concentrated stock position is not favorable for quickly turning it into cash, and he also called for increasing both the amount and speed of the foundation’s charitable donations.
It’s not that Bill Gates has lost confidence in Microsoft, and in fact, Ackman and Whale Rock on Wall Street both increased their holdings in the first quarter.
Sometimes you really can’t be misled by the news.
