Just spent way too much time comparing commodity trading platforms and figured I'd share what I found since a bunch of people keep asking about this stuff.
So basically if you want to trade commodities like oil, gold, metals or agricultural stuff, there's a bunch of platforms out there but they're pretty different depending on what you're after. I looked at the main ones and the thing that stood out is how much the fees and features vary.
Mitrade seems to be what most people gravitate toward - it's been around since 2011 and they don't charge commissions, just spreads. The interface is actually pretty clean for beginners but experienced traders can get into the technical stuff too. They let you trade with leverage on precious metals and you can go long or short depending on your strategy. That CFD model means you're not actually holding the physical commodity which honestly makes it way easier.
eToro has this copy trading thing which is kind of interesting if you're new - you can basically mirror what verified traders are doing. But their spreads tend to be higher than some competitors and they charge withdrawal fees which is annoying.
Plus500 keeps it simple with no commissions and just spreads, but the downside is they don't give you much in terms of research or educational content. IG Group is the opposite - they've got tons of market research tools and charting stuff but their spreads are wider and it's not super beginner friendly.
CMC Markets has really good analytical tools and customizable interface but again, complexity is the trade-off for beginners. Saxo Bank supports both CFD and futures which is cool for advanced traders but the fees are higher. Interactive Brokers is basically for professional traders - super low costs if you're doing high volume but the learning curve is steep. AvaTrade is probably the most beginner-friendly after Mitrade with educational resources and MetaTrader support.
The real thing to consider before picking a commodity trading platform is whether you want simplicity or advanced features, how much you're planning to trade, and what specific commodities you're interested in. Most of these platforms let you access oil, gold, natural gas, metals and agricultural stuff but the execution speed and fee structure really matter when prices are moving fast.
Anyone else using any of these? Curious what people actually prefer in practice versus what looks good on paper.
