Pakistan deploys troops to Saudi Arabia

8,000 military personnel, a squadron of fighters, and the Chinese HQ-9 missile defense system will be stationed in Saudi Arabia as part of a mutual defense pact signed between the countries.

It can be assumed that this way Saudi Arabia is hedging against the possible resumption of war between the US and Iran: Iran and Pakistan are friendly states, and bombing a country where allied troops are stationed would be problematic for the Iranians.

Thus, Pakistan's mission in Saudi Arabia could become the first mission within a collective security system in the Middle East, which they plan to establish in Pakistan — as a counterbalance to the existing security system based on US military bases.
