Samsung Electronics is set to kick off the largest strike in history in two days, lasting 18 days.
The HBM and DRAM production lines are all included in the strike.
Old Hai Zi has currently locked in 70% of the initial capacity for HBM4. With Samsung halting production, the supply gap is going to widen significantly.
Mi Zi just dropped $9.6 billion on building an HBM factory in Japan, but it won't be operational until 2028. Long-term solutions won't fix short-term issues.
If the strike drags on for over 10 days, the likelihood of a price hike in Q3 for spot memory chips is not negligible.
