Today I was monitoring alerts until my eyes dried out, and I casually thought of stop-losses. It really feels a bit like a breakup: you know something's wrong but you stubbornly drag it out, thinking "I'll observe a bit longer," and the result is that you get deeper and deeper into the position, while the interest/opportunity cost silently keeps bleeding... Honestly, admitting defeat earlier is actually easier and allows you to sleep better.
Recently, there's been talk about social mining and fan tokens again, with the idea that "attention is mining." It looks to me like one of those relationships you’re reluctant to leave: you invest not just money, but also emotions and face, so you’re even less willing to cut your losses. Anyway, my current approach is: when an alert sounds, first write out the worst-case scenario. If I can accept it, I stay; if I can't, I cut. Don’t fall in love with your investments and turn them into debt.
