Here's a little-known fact: some of Lao Da's AI chips are already being produced in Arizona, USA.

Lao Zhang's Fab 21 Phase 1 is now live, churning out the Blackwell series AI processors for Lao Da—this marks the first time in history that cutting-edge AI chips are being produced outside of Taiwan. Apple has also placed an order: over 100 million chips to be manufactured in Arizona by 2026.
And here's a cooler tidbit: Lao Zhang's total investment in Phoenix has hit $165 billion. But this might just be the tip of the iceberg—reports suggest that the final investment could balloon to $250 billion, as they plan to replicate the Hsinchu Science Park cluster model in Phoenix: three fabs + packaging plants + R&D centers, all in one go.
The Phase 2 facility has already been completed ahead of schedule, with equipment set to roll in this Q3, aiming for mass production of 3nm next year.
3,000 engineers and tech staff are already on board.
What does this mean? Previously, the world's most advanced chips could only be made in a handful of factories in Taiwan. Now, there's a backup in the Arizona desert. For all companies relying on cutting-edge chips, this acts as a hedge against geopolitical risks—though costs have gone up, it sure does make sleep easier.
